Make America's Energy 100% Green in 10 Years

I'm pleased to hear that Japan's wind farms survived the earthquake and tsunami quite well, and are picking up some of the slack from the broken-down nuclear reactors.  I think this is a good argument in favor of developing more wind power here in America.

What news have you heard recently about elemental energy sources? This includes wind (air), solar (fire), hydroelectric (water), geothermal (earth), and so forth.

In order to meet Gore's challenge of making America's energy 100% renewable in 10 years (of which we have 9 left), we need to make changes in every household, shifting from nonrenewable to renewable resources.
  • What accomplishments have you and your household made towards reducing your reliance on nonrenewable resources and increasing your use of green alternatives?
  • What things are you doing, or plan to do shortly, that will reduce your energy footprint?
  • What standard household items or appliances have you replaced with energy-efficient or alternative energy models?
  • What is your community doing to move towards renewable energy?

Gore's challenge calls for all of America's energy to be 100% renewable in 10 years (we have 9 left). Consider your current lifestyle and how much your household relies on fossil fuels. What are some things you will need to change in order to meet the challenge?

This note crossed my desk today:

Thousands of Repower America supporters joined Vice
President Al Gore on Tuesday for a Virtual Town Hall to
discuss where we should direct our movement in the weeks and
months ahead.

Together, we laid out some powerful steps -- from forcefully
challenging misinformation campaigns funded by big oil and
king coal, to protecting the Clean Air Act's ability to keep
our air and water clean.

But we need your voice to help us ramp up the next phase in
our fight against climate change. You can share your ideas
and get involved in this vitally important conversation as
it continues on the Repower America website.

Listen to highlights from the Virtual Town Hall with Al Gore
and share your thoughts on the way forward for the climate
movement:

We'll continue to fight against climate change in the halls
of Washington, D.C. and in communities all across the
country -- and we need you to be there with us every step of
the way.

Thanks for stepping up,

Dave Boundy

What news have you heard recently about Al Gore and/or his challenge for America to change to 100% renewable energy in 10 years (of which we have 9 left)?

I got this message on one of my email lists, featuring Al Gore:

The Senate has decided that we won't get a comprehensive
climate and clean energy bill before the August recess --
which most observers interpret as a death-knell for the
legislation this year.

This failure would be hard to understand at any time, to say
the least. But coming as it does in the middle of a
record-hot summer and a series of environmental disasters,
Washington's abandonment of this effort is all the more
confounding and frustrating.

However, this setback only makes our work more necessary. As
long as we care about our country, our planet, and the
future we're leaving for our children and grandchildren, we
must continue to fight.

Nuclear energy is losing its price advantage over solar energy.  Yay!  Hopefully people will choose solar energy, and not build more nuclear reactors.
